DIY CO2 |
I always enjoyed chemistry in High School and College, so this was a fun project. DIY CO2. I was intimidated at first by what seemed like a very complex set up. I set the 2 liter jug in back as the reactor. The small jar in front is a bubble counter. I ran a piece of air tubing to the valve from my Penguin power head as a "needle" valve to regulate the flow of bubbles. I then ran a piece from the valve to the the small container as a bubble counter. I can pretty closely regulate the flow to about 1 - 2 bubbles per second. I then ran the outlet hose from my DIY bubble counter to the venturi on my power head and shoot it under the substrate through the reverse flow UGF. I get a stream of bubbles from a spot where the sand is not quite as deep about every 15 minutes or so. I check my CO2 levels every other day and they apear to be some what steady at around 16 - 20 ppm.
